Land Acknowledgement

The Alberta LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce acknowledges that Alberta is the traditional territory of many peoples,  including those of Treaties 6, 7, and 8, namely:the Blackfoot Confederacy (Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika), Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney Nakoda, and Tsuut’ina Nation and the Métis People of Alberta. Two-Spirit individuals form an important part of all these Nations and peoples. Embedded in the lands on which the Chamber serves and where our Members operate are the histories, cultures and traditions of Indigenous groups across Alberta. The Chamber would like to thank the original inhabitants of these lands for sharing your homelands with us.

Our Vision of Reconciliation –
Commitment in 2021 and Beyond

We are all Treaty peoples, and therefore reconciliation is the responsibility of all Canadians, including this Chamber. We will do our part to bring together our Directors, our Members, and Indigenous peoples to support the growth of a strong shared future and create a space to foster Indigenous reconciliation. In 2020 and 2021, this has included our Annual General Meetings and events, which were each opened with land acknowledgments.

Going forward, the Chamber commits to further expansion of its commitment to reconciliation through:
  • Creating and regularly reviewing reconciliation policies,
  • Expanding its relationships with Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQ+ and allied businesses and communities, and
  • Engaging in reconciliation discussions within its Board of Directors and with Membership.

We welcome your feedback or thoughts on our commitment. Please send them to info@ab-lgbt.com.
