The Government of Canada has announced a $660.5 million, five-year investment (and $132.1 million annually thereafter) to strengthen the Department for Women and Gender Equality. This funding includes:
- $54.6 million for 2SLGBTQI+ programming, supporting organizations through the Community Capacity Fund to build networks, strategic plans, and stronger foundations for impact.
- $7.5 million for Pride festivals’ safety and insurance, recognizing the importance of safe, affirming spaces amid rising hate.
- $382.5 million for the Women’s Program to expand economic security and leadership
- $223.4 million for gender-based violence prevention, explicitly including 2SLGBTQI+ people.
For the Alberta 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce, this represents a clear recognition that queer and trans people are essential to Canada’s economic and social future. We’re excited to help our members, partners, and communities tap into these opportunities and continue building a thriving, inclusive economy right here in Alberta.
