Autism 101
Sponsored by the City of Edmonton’s Beyond Belonging Grant, and presented by Autism Edmonton, this 90-minute webinar offers a deep dive into the neurodiverse experience—unpacking what autism is, and what it isn’t.
Presenter Bio
Douglas Parsons is a Manager at Autism Edmonton, where he leads learning and capacity building initiatives that help businesses, organizations, professionals, and communities build greater understanding of autism and create more inclusive environments. He also leads the Housing and 3rd Space programs. An award-winning educator and curriculum developer with more than 20 years of experience in adult education, workforce development, and inclusive practice, Douglas has worked with learners and organizations across a wide range of sectors and communities. His work makes complex conversations accessible, practical, and relevant to the people in the room.
His connection to Edmonton’s 2SLGBTQI+ community is also deeply personal. Douglas co-founded and organized Pride Corner on Whyte and created and hosted Tales of the 2SLGBTQ+, a podcast that shares stories and experiences from across the community. His work brings together education, lived experience, and community building, with a focus on moving beyond awareness toward understanding, acceptance, and practical changes that allow people to participate, belong, and be themselves.

The 55th Anniversary of the ‘We Demand’ Protest: Canada’s very first national gay rights demonstration on Parliament Hill in 1971.
