Calgary Queer Arts Society (CQAS)

The Calgary Queer Arts Society is a dynamic organization that uses the power of storytelling to advance 2SLGBTQIA+ representation and resilience. For over 25 years, they have been a staple of Calgary’s cultural landscape, providing platforms for queer voices to dissolve differences and inspire thoughtful conversations. Their mission is rooted in the belief that art is a fundamental tool for education and community strengthening.

Their most prominent programs include the Fairy Tales Queer Film Festival, one of Canada’s longest-running queer film events, and The Coming Out Monologues YYC, which features original performances of personal journey stories. Beyond the stage and screen, their OUTReels Diversity Education Program has delivered hundreds of workshops across Alberta, teaching terminology and allyship to schools and workplaces. CQAS continues to evolve, recently expanding its mandate to support all forms of queer artistic expression.
