The Chamber is Non-Partisan

The Alberta LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce is a non-partisan organization, meaning it does not formally align with or act for any particular political party.

By bringing together businesses, communities, and government, the Chamber’s mission is to build a thriving business community that promotes the equality and inclusion of gender and sexually diverse individuals in commerce and at work. The SOGIE community includes individuals from all communities, peoples, and political affiliations. The Chamber’s members are part of the SOGIE community.  Therefore, the Chamber communicates with individuals and businesses across the political spectrum, both inside and outside of government. The Chamber may also receive money from governments or businesses operating under various political ideologies or invite elected representatives from various political parties to attend its events. 

However, the Chamber will not associate with individuals or entities, political or otherwise, that presently and intentionally act against the SOGIE community.

The Chamber is Not Apolitical

The Chamber is not an apolitical organization, meaning it is concerned with developments in politics and society.

The Chamber believes in the power of business to make Alberta the most inclusive economy for all gender and sexually diverse communities. This vision is a political statement. Being non-partisan is a political statement. Simply leading an open and authentic life as a member of the SOGIE community is a political statement. Therefore, the Chamber’s existence and actions are inherently political, and it will engage with the SOGIE community, political actors, and broader society for the fulfillment of its mission and vision. 

To advance its cause, the Chamber may or may not make formal statements regarding certain developments or events. It may or may not take formal positions in societal or communal debates. It may or may not choose to undertake certain activities, partake in particular events, or interact with specific individuals or entities. 

The Chamber Has a Distinct Role

The Chamber has a distinct role within the SOGIE community, meaning it may take positions on issues which are similar to or different from other SOGIE community organizations.

The Chamber values collaboration, empowerment, inclusivity, and integrity. These values are important to building inclusive commerce and an inclusive economy. Working under its values, the Chamber acts to advance its mission and vision and in the service of its members. This framework creates a perspective within the Chamber that is distinct within the SOGIE community.



The SOGIE community is made up of many organizations with differing goals, interests, and views. Each SOGIE organization will act to further its goals and take stances that may be different from other organizations. The Chamber is the same in this regard and believes this diversity of opinion is good for the SOGIE community and for society. Therefore, when the Chamber acts or comments, it will do so based on its own goals, interests, and views, including those of its members.
